The National Council for Voluntary Organisations has spoken out about the issues facing the Government.
“All of us want to live in communities where we can fulfil our aspirations for ourselves and our families,” they say. “Yet some communities are struggling and people can feel isolated or excluded.
These problems have an economic cost – including higher demands on public services – as well as huge social costs. The Government can play an important role by supporting the ecosystem of local government, voluntary organisations, volunteers, and businesses which enable communities to thrive and be mutually supportive and resilient.”
